West Coast Music Scene
Converging on San Diego for AMP Music Festival

San Diego, CA - In less than 3 weeks, thirty emerging artists, bands and performances will gather for the Amp Music Festival(www.ampmusicfestival.com) on September 17, 11:30-9:00pm at the Jacobs Center for Innovation at Market Creek Plaza (404 Euclid Avenue, San Diego, CA 92114). Hosted by the Asian Business Association, proceeds will fund art and music scholarships for at-risk youth in challenged socioeconomic areas throughout San Diego. The Amp Music Festival is a new all-day, all ages, outdoor concert experience with music from all genres and styles. The event features 2 stages, a beer garden sponsored by Singha Beer, food and interactive media booths.

Respected local artists such as San Diego Music Awards Best Pop Band nominee 321 Stereo and the twice-nominated Jane Lui will rock the stage, with a line-up of local heavy-hitters and trending singer/songwriters.  Attendees will hear emerging artists from around the country ; including The Slants with their Portland, Oregon forged “Chinatown-dance-rock” style and the L.A. based all-girl pop rock band Nylon Pink who notoriously claim their ‘Hello Kitty on Acid’ style.  Members of the line-up represent a new trend in independent artists who are finding their audience through self producing and social networks, such as the Bay Area’s Jennifer Chung, a YouTube star who touts over 138,866 subscribers and 34,681,092 upload views. Indie music fans can learn more about the artists, and see sample videos by visiting the Amp Music Festival website.
The event has an impressive collection of business, community, professional, and social organizations who support the event and its cause, including the producers of Allegiance, a new broadway bound musical set to premiere at the Old Globe Theatre in 2012 (http://www.allegiancemusical.com)  and local Kearny Mesa restaurant Min Sok Chon which will hold a warm-up Karaoke talent contest on September 7th. The winner of the contest will perform on stage at the festival! (Details on how to enter can be found on www.minsokchon.com).  Crowd pleasers “DANakaDAN” Mathews, TV persona Jelynn Rodriguez, and Hula Ramos of Star 94.1 will emcee (Complete list of sponsors  and partners available at www.ampmusicfestival.com/sponsors)

Save the date for Saturday, September 17th from 11:30am to 9pm, doors open at 11a. Follow @ampmusicfest on Twitter for more independent Asian-American music news or on the AMP Music Festival Facebook Page. $20 Tickets are available in advance at www.ampmusicfestival.com, or $30 at the gate.

AMP Music Festival Features 30 Emerging Artists in
All-Day Concert to Fund Music Scholarships

Rising artists in Asian American entertainment coming to San Diego event September 17

SAN DIEGO, CA - The AMP Music Festival is a new all-day, outdoor, multi genre concert event on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Market Creek Plaza. With a 3,000-person capacity, the venue will feature contemporary independent artists performing live from 12pm to 9pm on two stages.

AMP Music Festival is the first major music event in San Diego focusing on Asian American musicians, with music in all genres, styles and scenes. The festival promotes independent and undiscovered talent in this growing population, while raising money for scholarships for students in high schools in low socioeconomic areas and high concentrations of “at risk” youth.

Local San Diego musicians including San Diego Music Award Nominees 321 Stereo and Jane Lui will have a strong presence in our music festival, but AMP will also have talent from Los Angeles and as far up as San Francisco and New York.  Festival goers can follow their favorite artists and discover new ones on the event website, where the full line-up can be seen.  Website is www.ampmusicfestival.com.

With an impressive collective of local support from a diverse group of community, professional, and social organizations, San Diego Asian Film Foundation, Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Asian American Professionals, the Vietnamese American Youth Alliance, the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce, the Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego, and many more have all pledged their support; most prominently the Asian Business Association (http://www.abasd.org/) who is co-hosting the event with Silk Road Productions (http://www.silkroadproductions.us/)

Funds raised from the event will support music scholarships and cultural programs in schools through the Asian Business Association Community Foundation, a 501(3)c organization committed to community development and economic growth.  Information about the scholarship applications can be found at the following  link: http://ampmusicfestival.com/about/scholarship-information/

Follow @ampmusicfest on Twitter for more independent Asian-American music news or on the AMP Music Festival Facebook Page.  Tickets are available now and AMP goers can purchase tickets at www.ampmusicfestival.com and are $20 in advance, or $30 at the gate.

First things First...

If you've stumbled across ths, WELCOME!

You might be wondering what is up with this.... Sos lets get this out of the Way, My name is Andy Lowe, I'm a Theatrical Director, and event Producer based in San Diego California. What's with the Pirate thing you may ask?

This nickname and analogy roots from a realization amongst myself and many friends and colleagues of mine, that Working in Theatre is a very mercenary lifestyle.  there is no job security, there are no ties, theres really just the job.  You find a job, find a crew, you sail with them, and you trust them like family for the time you sail with them, and when the job's done, you start looking for the next crew, the next job, the next ship.  Some of the ties you make, you'll carry with you for life, and some of the people you've encountered you may never see again...

In the end all that matters is that you keep sailing... and sometimes thats enough... (yes that was a thinly veiled Firefly reference... I'm a big geek so sue me)

If you haven't figured out yet, I'm a bit of a romantic... Mythology, or mythic things and people excite me, because as a storyteller, I can find something grand and noble in even the most simple human struggle.

So what can you expect here... well, most likely this will be a great venue for me to pimp the crap out of my projects and endeavors I've taken on... but if I'm pimping a project, I can tell you that Its cause these are things that genuinely excite me.  I am driven by passion... and if I cant get passionate about a project, Its near impossible for me to motivate my self to do it...

and generally, speaking, just "Doing" something is usually not enough for me... "Doing it RIGHT" is more important!

oh yeah and I tend to ramble.... cause the rest of me isn't always so caught up with my brain...

Anyways, expect to learn more about my upcoming projects, get some insider perspectives on the process involved in making some of these projects come to life.

Till next time...

"L!"
